We’ll never know whether a fair maiden with blonde hair and a beguiling song was really responsible for the demise of so many Rhine sailors on Lorelei rock, or whether they simply became distracted by the unique landscape. This makes the opportunity all the more enjoyable to explore at your leisure the rugged rocks, melancholy castles and quaint little winemaking villages along this 67-km stretch of the Middle Rhine Valley (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). A destination that is equally diverse, albeit in a completely different way, is Amsterdam. Hardly any other city can boast such internationalism in such a small area. The Dutch people are extremely open, treating you like an old acquaintance as soon as you meet them, and the canals and museums delight visitors – and rightly so. Wonderful Rotterdam’s defining feature is its port, the largest in Europe. And as for the tall, sophisticated, exciting architecture, there’s only one possible response: take out your camera.

Harbour Arrival Departure
1st Cologne 4:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Cologne, the old Cathedral city, is also one of the most important traffic hubs and commercial centres in Germany, with world famous trade fairs and a busy shipping traffic. Cologne developed out of a Roman colony and looks back on a history of more than 2000 years. In the Middle Ages it was one of the leading towns in Germany. The Second World War destroyed most of the inner city; these parts were rebuilt in a modern style. The landmark and emblem of the city is the Cathedral, a masterpiece of High Gothic architecture and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. Other tourist attractions are the town hall, the Malakoff Tower, the St Martin Church and the old abbey.
2nd Antwerp 2:00 pm 9:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Thanks to its port, Antwerp was an important centre of trade and commerce even before historical records began. In addition to its long established traditions in banking and insurance, the continual expansion and modernisation of the port has seen the emergence of a multitude of trades and industries. Today Greater Antwerp is the biggest industrial conurbation in Belgium. Antwerp’s international reputation is partly due to the diamond industry and the special role the city plays in the diamond trade worldwide. The city’s remarkable reputation does not just rest on its trade and industry, it is also the cultural capital of Flanders.
3rd Rotterdam 8:00 am 6:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Rotterdam, the second largest city in the Netherlands, is located on both banks of the Nieuwe Maas, the southern arm of the Rhine, joined by the little River Rotte. Since the opening of the Europoort in 1966, Rotterdam has been the largest port in the world, and in consequence has developed into a gigantic commercial and industrial centre whose full potential is still very far from being realised.
4th Amsterdam 6:00 am 7:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Amsterdam is located in the provinces of Noord-Holland. Including its ten outer suburbs, Amsterdam has a population of over one million inhabitants, forming the largest conurbation in what is known as “Randstad Holland”. The city is the hub and cornerstone of the Dutch economy thanks mainly to its importance as a commercial centre and the country’s second largest port. Amsterdam is unusual in many ways, i.e. it has more than 2000 architectural monuments, world-class museums and historic canals, but also its unique and liberal atmosphere makes it stand out.
5th Flusstag 1:00 am 1:00 am
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Ich genieße das Rheintal-Panorama aus der Sauna heraus. Das einzig Störende: Meine Kamera würde das schlecht vertragen.
6th Koblenz 6:00 am 1:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Koblenz is not just where history meets modernity, but also where the Rhine meets the Mosel: at the “Deutsches Eck” (“German Corner”) the two rivers join each other in front of the equestrian statue of Emperor William I.
7th Speyer 10:00 am 6:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Speyer is a historic old imperial city, which is situated on the left bank of the Rhine. From 1294 to 1797 it was a free imperial city, and the Imperial Diet met frequently in Speyer during that period. It suffered severe destruction in 1689 during the war over the Palatinate succession. The symbol of Speyer is the huge cathedral, one of the most important cathedrals built in the High Romanesque period.
8th Strasbourg (Kehl) 8:00 am 7:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise From the Roman era up until the present day, Strasbourg has played a significant role and had an eventful history. The impressive buildings still bear testament to this today. Strasbourg is the capital of the Alsace and a European metropolis with many research-, educational- and cultural institutions; it is also the seat of the European Council of Ministers.
9th Mainz 9:00 am 1:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Mainz is a historic old town, a former Electoral residence, seat of an Archbishop and also the city of Gutenberg. The city is a focal point of the western end of the Rhine-Main economic region. Around 1450 Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of printing with movable type, set up his press in Mainz. Points of interest are the St Martin and St Stephen cathedrals, the castle of Mainz and the Gutenberg Museum.
Rüdesheim 4:00 pm 9:00 pm
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Rüdesheim, an ancient little town, stretches along the Rhine under the hills of the Niederwald. The best vineyards are traditionally said to have been planted with Traminer vines by Charlemagne. The excellent local wines and the charming and varied scenery have enabled Rüdesheim to develop since the end of the 19th century into one of the busiest tourist and holiday centres on the Middle Rhine, with a host of friendly restaurants and wine taverns, particularly along the famous Drosselgasse. Rüdesheim has two castles – the Oberburg and the Vorderburg – both were built in the 12th century.
10th Cologne 6:00 am 1:00 am
Reiseverlauf Rhine River Cruise Cologne, the old Cathedral city, is also one of the most important traffic hubs and commercial centres in Germany, with world famous trade fairs and a busy shipping traffic. Cologne developed out of a Roman colony and looks back on a history of more than 2000 years. In the Middle Ages it was one of the leading towns in Germany.
